The First Month of Summer II (reel)

I've put this reel down here before on the C pipes, but here's a quick lash at it in D based somewhat on Emmett Gill's playing of it HERE. I like his single fingered F sharp rolls: they lend an interesting tone and change in pitch, as well as sounding snappy but nicely contained. Works well on the concert pitch chanter, but sounds all wrong on the little tone holes of the C chanter.

I'm making a point of playing the D set more these days; I've become too lazy and decadent on the C beasties. Have increased my intake of red meat and raw eggs accordingly.

This is a tune I generally associated more with fiddle than with flute and pipes, although I seem to remember a great pipes rendition of it on the Tom Busby Collection recordings.

Regards,
